Our Story
Our story started when we met Rachel. She was a cashier at a supermarket and lost her job when she started making too many mistakes because she could not see her screen clearly anymore. She lost her job not because she lacked commitment, intelligence or anything else: but simply because she had blurry vision and could not afford to spend thousands of rands for an optometrist and glasses.
CBEST’s mission is to tackle this challenge: inspired by what CAPITEC did for banking, we want to bring high quality but affordable eye care and glasses to lower income communities. Why affordable eye care matters
Over 13 million people in South Africa live with uncorrected vision – limiting their opportunities at work, at school, and in daily life. That’s equivalent to almost the whole population of Gauteng not seeing clearly when in most cases there is a simple and affordable solution: glasses. And glasses are not expensive with the right business model. CBEST aims to keep prices low by managing high volume clinics, where the costs of care can be spread across many clients and patients.
